Kathleen Murphy is back at the yard:ARTspace for another Sewcial before the festive mayhem begins. Be assured it will have a seasonal twist and will get your creative juices flowing.

The Seasonal Sewcial will begin with each participant opening a small parcel, the contents of which will set the scene as the materials, theme or challenge you will be working on is revealed. Kathleen will guide you through methods for inspiring and practically tackling the task assisted by techniques from her own practice. The rest of the day is spent absorbed in exploring the topic with support from Kathleen as required.

Kathleen Murphy is a maker who specialises in constructing with needle and thread. Also known by the name Murgatroyd & Bean, Kathleen combines handstitch with found objects and repurposed materials to create pieces which have a strong sense of narrative, colour and texture. Inspired by, and often exploring, folk culture, social history and the wooded landscape.

Kathleen is the originator and curator of an artist challenge project called A Group Gathering, she has been tutoring creative handstitch across the UK since 2012 and she has recently completed an MA in Contemporary Craft.

 

The Sewcial- What to Expect 

10am - 4pm.

 

What you need to bring along with you and / or prepare in advance

All materials will be provided. 

You need to bring along embroidery scissors, a needle case, notebook and pen.

The Sewcial is a social place and welcomes sharing so if you have something you’d like to show or tell, be it a project or an exhibition recommendation, you would be most welcome to do so.

£70 to include all materials.

Places are not considered booked without the receipt of a £60 workshop fee.
